Scholarships

The Foundation provides a variety of scholarships to promising junior players and deserving students who live in Southern California. Scholarships are need-based and priority is given to juniors whose families can show financial need.

Before you apply, carefully read our scholarship guidelines and requirements and review the application. We strive to make the application process clear and simple. If you have questions about whether you (or your son or daughter) qualify for a grant, please contact our executive director, Linda Milan at lmilan@sctafoundation.org.

The Foundation wants to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to receive a scholarship. Therefore, if you need help completing a scholarship application, please contact our executive director.

Who is eligible

  • Deserving junior players
  • Minority populations
  • Low-income populations

Who is NOT eligible

  • Players over the age of 18
  • Players with low GPAs
  • Players with a track record of poor sportsmanlike conduct

Restrictions
Applicants may only receive one of our scholarship grants within a calendar year.

Geographic Region
Scholarships are made to juniors who live in the Southern California Section of the USTA.

Eligibility for reapplying
Grant recipients are eligible to reapply nine (9) months after they’ve received their funding and only after they’ve submitted their final report.

Available Scholarships

The Kramer Future Champions Scholarship Grant

This grant supports junior tennis players between the ages of 8-18 who aspire to play collegiate or professional tennis, show significant promise, and demonstrate financial need to compete in sectional or national tournaments.

Size: Up to $1,200
Use of funds: Tournament fees, travel expenses, and equipment
Application Dates: February 1 – 28, June 1-30, October 1-31
Notification: Within 30 days of close date

The Henry Talbert Summer Tennis Camp Scholarship Grant

This grant supports junior tennis players between the ages of 8-16 who demonstrate a commitment to improving their tennis, but whose families lack the resources to cover the fees and tuition cost for one week summer tennis camp.

Amount: Up to $800
Use of funds: To cover the cost of camp fees and tuition
Application deadline: Submit between March 15 to April 15
Notification: No later than May 10

The Victor Stern Scholarship Grant

This grant supports junior tennis players between the ages of 12-18 who have a passion for tennis and wish to pursue the sport. Players must have a record of competitive play, wish to continue playing tennis, and have a goal of pursuing a post-high school education. Two grants will be awarded each year to deserving female and male players.

Size: Up to $1200
Use of funds: To cover the cost of tournament fees, travel expenses, and equipment
Application deadline: Submit between July 10 to August 15
Notification: August 31

The Summer Camp Tennis Racket Scholarship Package

This grant supports junior tennis players between the ages of 5 and 11 who are Red, Orange or Green levels and would like to pursue the sport. They must reside in Southern California and have a desire to learn and have fun. The scholarship package includes an age and stage appropriate racket and balls, a cinch backpack as well as other prizes. The simple online application includes a short essay question for the child to answer in his/her own words. Up to twenty (20) scholarships will be awarded to deserving male and female applicants.

Short Answer: Complete one of these sentences: “Tennis is fun for me because…” or “I want to learn to play tennis because…”
Award: Tennis equipment and fun prizes
Application deadline: Submit between May 1 and June 15 (11:59pm).
Notification: Rackets will be awarded by June 30
